Posidonia oceanica

Sea grass on sandy seabed in Minies

Catcher

The most important marine habitat in the Mediterranean is disappearing under our very own eyes. While the problem is mostly documented in other places, like southern France, the gulf of Gabes, and Spain, the biggest problem in Greece is that because there is no funding, nobody is paying attention.

There are two main ways in which Posidonia sea beds are protected; through Marine Parks and Natura 2000 sites, and also through the little-known "posidonia" areas designated by the Coast Guard (guideline document / law).
