INTERNSHIPS AND PLACEMENTS

Volunteering at Wildlife Sense is a great opportunity to achieve your extra mural studies (EMS), Internship, Placement, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award requirements, or to gain work experience or community service hours.

You can request a volunteering certificate at the end of your stay, but for some of the above, you will need additional preparation and possibly some research and reading before your arrival.

Students can also collaborate with a faculty member from their university to create a certifiable academic programme that qualifies for course credit within the faculty member’s department or programme. While seeking out this collaboration is up to you, we are happy to provide any necessary documentation. The number of spots is limited, and deadlines and requirements may apply so please contact us if interested.

If you would like to collect data or conduct research, you must have a four-week minimum stay and submit your data collection proposal on or before January 15th within the year you would like to collect the data. Additionally, there are research guidelines that must be reviewed and will be sent after your email of interest.

Each season, we only accept a limited number of Interns at a time so please write to us in advance and apply shortly thereafter.

For all the above, there are a few steps that must be followed before we can accept your proposal:

1. We must be sure the student’s university or school approves us. Most of them have pre-approval paperwork which must be completed before accepting our volunteer programme for credits. Similarly, they often have paperwork they require us to complete during or after the student has completed a programme with us. We need to receive all the required paperwork before the student arrives.

Note: every university or school requirements is different

2. We also must be sure that Wildlife Sense can meet the student’s internship requirements. For this, we request the student to complete the attached form, plus submit a bulleted summary of the specific requirements for the proposed Internship/Placement Project.

3. After meeting the requirements above, a video call may be arranged for the student with our Internship Program Manager if more information is needed.
